Smiths Detection, part of the global technology business Smiths Group, today announces a $10.6 million U.S. Government contract for its mobile, high-energy cargo screeners which will be deployed across the country to inspect inbound and outbound shipping containers and trucks.

Stephen Phipson, President of Smiths Detection, said: "This contract underlines the superiority of our high-energy mobile X-ray solutions, built in our Alcoa, Tennessee facility. These advanced, highly reliable detection systems produce best-in-class imaging resolution, critical in assisting the rapid identification of potentially life threatening or illegal shipments."

The HCV Mobile inspection vehicles use high-energy X-ray scanning, designed to optimize security checks at ports, airports and border crossings. The systems are used to inspect trucks, containers and other vehicles for contraband, weapons, explosives and narcotics.
