The partnership will accelerate development of new technologies at Smiths

Smiths Group, a leading industrial technology company, today announces its membership of the Manufacturing Technology Centre (“MTC”) to support future growth and success in advanced manufacturing across the UK.

Smiths joins MTC’s core research programme and will participate alongside other major UK-based manufacturers who are committed to supporting UK industry and driving new technologies.

Developed in response to the UK Government’s manufacturing strategy, the goal of the MTC is to prove innovative manufacturing processes and technologies in an agile environment, in partnership with industry, academia and other institutions.

From early-stage ideation through to producing physical proof of concepts, MTC’s experts will partner with teams at Smiths, helping overcome key challenges, innovating new and novel ways of manufacturing to aid future product development and enhance current products. MTC will take a guiding role throughout the entire process – including product manufacturing - working with Smiths to plug any expertise gaps, evaluating the market, and devising solutions.

Roland Carter, Chief Executive Officer of Smiths Group said: “The opportunity to visit the Manufacturing Technology Centre to unveil our membership in the MTC represents another exciting stage in the constant evolution of Smiths Group. We are proud to be part of an organisation which directly aligns with our purpose of engineering a better future. Being part of this initiative will help develop our talent, skill and engineering expertise now and over the longer-term.”

Kini Pathmanathan, Chief People, Sustainability & Excellence Officer at Smiths, said: “Our journey to improve manufacturing excellence is ongoing. The MCT partnership will help us advance our Smiths Excellence capabilities, with a specific focus on automation, additive manufacturing and building cutting-edge digital plants. This will help us continue to grow our global competitiveness and ultimately better support our customers.”

Colin Bancroft, Senior Business Development Manager at MTC commented: “We’re delighted to welcome Smiths Group as new members and partners for progress in advanced manufacturing.  This partnership marks a significant step forward and we look forward to working together to drive innovation, growth and long-term impact across the sector”
