Tadar detects objects hidden under clothing.

SMITHS Detection, part of the global technology business Smiths Group, today launches its latest technological innovation in people screening: Tadar.

Tadar is a people screening portal that reveals items hidden under clothing. It can detect both metal objects such as guns and non-metallic threats such as plastic explosives.

Based on passive millimetre-wave technology, Tadar represents a major technological advance on metal screening portals and wands.

It uses the bodys natural electromagnetic radiation to sense threat objects and generate images with no risk to the person being inspected.

When Tadar scans a passenger it reflects the bodys radiation on to very sensitive sensors. The signals are processed by a computer, producing high-resolution, real-time, images.

Tadar can be used in a variety of public areas, such as airports, courts, Government buildings, prisons, embassies, schools, sporting events, mass transit systems and nuclear
sites.

Stephen Phipson, Group Managing Director of Smiths Detection, said: "Tadar is part of the comprehensive security checkpoint solution concept being developed by Smiths Detection and perfectly complements our other products."

The machine is expected to enter full production early in 2007 with airports worldwide already showing considerable interest in this exciting advance in aviation security.
