IONSCAN 600 the first explosives trace detector to be approved under new US TSA rules

The new IONSCAN 600 from Smiths Detection is the first explosive trace detection system included on the ‘approved’ TSA Air Cargo Screening Technology List (ACSTL) under new guidelines. The guidelines require a significantly higher level of explosives detection capability and advanced software functionality – a technology innovation challenge Smiths Detection has embraced.

IONSCAN 600 is a portable desktop trace detection system that detects tiny quantities of explosives, as well as narcotics such as fentanyl, within seconds. It’s designed to be extremely flexible for use in dynamic environments and is fully operational on hot-swappable batteries to ensure continuous use.

Stephen Esposito, Vice President, Business Development and Sales of Smiths Detection Inc, said: “IONSCAN 600 making the ACSTL list reflects our continued global leadership on aviation security technology.”

Innovations like IONSCAN 600 are one way Smiths Detection is helping to improve security and support the free flow of cargo across the world.
