Apprentices are in our DNA

Apprentices are part of the DNA of Smiths. Many of our senior leaders started out on this path, including our Chief Executive, Andy Reynolds Smith. This week we celebrated National Apprenticeship Week in the United Kingdom, recognising the success of apprenticeships at Smiths.

We spoke to some current and existing apprentices about their experience:

"My experience as an Apprentice for John Crane has been extraordinary. I’m learning so much by being onsite, working alongside experience colleagues every day. I also had the opportunity to be part of our 2017 Capital Markets Day, working alongside the team to showcase how we’re working with ABB Robotics in John Crane. As part of this team, I had the opportunity to talk to investors and company executives– and I even got to meet our CEO, Andy Reynolds Smith – not every apprentice can say that!"

"I joined Smiths in 2014 as an IT Apprentice, completing a year-long Level 3 Systems and Networking course, followed by a two-year Level 4 Project Management course. Now, I’m working as a Service and Improvement Analyst for Smiths Group’s IT function. I really enjoyed being an apprentice at Smiths and found it facilitated my development, both professionally and personally. I was also proud to be shortlisted for Microsoft Apprentice of the Year, and thanks to my nomination, Smiths won Microsoft Enterprise Employer of the Year in 2015."
