Smiths Group plc announces the appointment of Anne Quinn, CBE, as a non-executive Director of the Company and as a member of the Audit, Nomination and Remuneration Committees of  the Board, with effect from 1st August 2009.

Anne Quinn is a non-executive Director of Mondi plc. Her roles during a successful career with BP plc between 1987 and 2007 included Group Vice President of Gas and Natural Gas Liquids, Managing Director of BP Gas Marketing Ltd and Managing Director of Alliance Gas Ltd. Prior to its acquisition by BP, Anne was an executive with Standard Oil of Ohio. She has a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Auckland University and a Masters in Management Science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

She was a non-executive Director of The BOC Group plc from 2004 to 2006 and from 2008 to 2009 a Managing Director of Riverstone Europe LLP, a private equity investment firm specialising in the renewable and conventional energy and power industries. She also serves on the President’s Advisory Committee to the Sloan School, MIT.

Donald Brydon, Chairman, said "I am delighted that Anne has agreed to join the Board of Smiths Group. She brings a further international perspective to the Board as well as a strong track record in the oil, gas and power industries which is of particular importance to our John Crane Division."
