EDGE™ Safety Hypodermic Syringes for Government flu preparedness effort

Smiths Medical today announces a contract award from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) for safety hypodermic syringes that could reach $10 million as part of the Government's national flu pandemic preparedness efforts.

Stuart Morris-Hipkins, president of Smiths Medical North America, said: "Expert estimates suggest that the H1N1 flu could affect half of all Americans, including groups like healthy young adults previously thought to be at low risk.  We are proud to support the government's efforts to protect as many people as possible from H1N1 flu."

In addition to supplying important safety products, Smiths Medical staff will be available should an emergency need arise for additional products. The company, part of the global technology business Smiths Group, has also set aside dedicated warehouse space for HHS to help ensure that products are available whenever needed.
