Highly effective, easy to use, hand-held chemical warfare agent monitor

SMITHS Detection, part of the global engineering business Smiths Group, today announced its military unit has been awarded a delivery order for over 2,000 Improved Chemical Agent Monitor (ICAM) units. The contract from the US Department of Defense is valued at $9.5M.

ICAM is a hand-held post-attack device that provides a means of quickly locating the presence of nerve and blister agent contamination on personnel and equipment in both combat and homeland defense missions. The soldier-operated sensor is also used to confirm the absence of chemical threats in high-risk situations.

Stephen Phipson, Group Managing Director of Smiths Detection, said: "Smiths Detection is proud to provide U.S. troops with these highly effective chemical monitors."

"The ICAM is battle proven and reliable and will assist U.S troops in performing their missions."

The ICAM is based on the highly successful Chemical Agent Monitor (CAM), developed by Smiths Detection. Over 70,000 CAMs have been deployed worldwide including to recent conflicts.
