Brandon Pruett, Flex-Tek

Brandon Pruett from Tutco, part of our Flex-Tek business, shares what it means to him to see his nominated charity, Flint Global, selected for Smiths Foundation funding.

Flint Global partners with local leaders to co create long term, community led solutions that break cycles of poverty.

The Foundation previously supported Flint to provide bio-gas systems across multiple Maasai communities in Kenya, as a means of sustainable energy for cooking, heating and lighting.

Reflecting on the impact of the charity, Brandon said: “The biogas project in Tanzania has been a huge success.

“The recipients must no longer deforest nearby preserves and spend hours each day gathering wood, nor do they have to breathe in the toxins created by burning wood inside a straw and clay structure with no chimney.

“The nomination this year was to expand this project into Kenya and bolster the impact in Tanzania by investing into portable gas units that can store methane gas at a biogas generator.

“These portable units can then be moved to another site for use.

“I am thankful that Smiths has chosen to invest further into Flint Global and am excited to see the continued impact on the Maasai community with these technologies.”

The Smiths Foundation awards grants to charitable organisations nominated by Smiths employees, supporting causes that align with our purpose of engineering a better future.

Since its launch in 2023, the Foundation has awarded approximately £3 million in funding to 32 charities across 16 countries.
