Kenthia from Italy shares a powerful and deeply personal story celebrating her family’s remarkable 76‑year connection to Smiths. In her entry, she reflects on how Smiths has been woven into the lives of three generations of her family.
175 years is more than a number. It is a story made of people, time, and generations. In 175 years of history, just one family (mine) has lived through 76 of them from within. Almost half a century built day by day, generation after generation.
It begins with my great-aunt, born in 1930. Her generation embodies the company's roots: resilience, dedication and the values that formed its foundation.
Next comes the generation represented by my uncle, born in 1958. This generation helped Smiths to grow and strengthen, contributing commitment and continuity over many years.
And in the same generation, the third member of the family, (the daughter of my great-aunt) born in 1965, is represented by structure and responsibility - a generation that supported and sustained the company through change.
And finally, the third generation and the fourth of the family (myself), born in 1978, still part of Smiths today, embodying adaptability, innovation, and the bridge to the present and future.
Together, these four lives have given 76 years of service to Smiths. But beyond the number, they represent something greater: continuity, legacy, and a deep connection between people and purpose. If Smiths is 175 years strong today, it is because of stories like this - where work becomes heritage, and heritage becomes identity.

In my family, Smiths is not just a workplace - it is a shared journey across three generations.
While it is with some sadness that I say goodbye to Smiths following the sale of Smiths Interconnect, I am confident that the future will bring new and exciting opportunities - built on everything we have learned along the way.
