Honouring National Apprenticeship Week with words from our apprentices

This week, we recognise National Apprenticeship Week in the UK.

At Smiths, a big part of our People Plan to Attract, Retain, Develop, Engage and Inspire existing and new colleagues is to bring great new people to our business. One of the ways we do this is through our apprenticeship programme.

See what some of our apprentices have to say about their experience at Smiths:

“…everyday is different and produces more challenges. It is these challenges that help me to grow and expand my knowledge. Smiths has taught me a lot since I joined and given me many different opportunities.Everyone is always willing to help and share knowledge - being an apprentice at Smiths is a great experience.” – James Green, BIS apprentice

“the understanding of how John Crane operates and being exposed to processes behind the scenes, along with meeting the factory staff and absorbing their experiences and understanding what they do, has grown my skills and knowledge … I now feel confident to have a say in technical conversations, imparting some of my own wisdom and experience gained as well as using what I understand to aid projects that I am included in.” – Luke Norris, John Crane apprentice

“I find being an apprentice at Smiths enjoyable as I get to move around departments and learn new things and meet new people. As an apprentice I get a lot of new and exciting opportunities…” – Hamzah Ijaz, Smiths Interconnect apprentice

“Early career talent is vital to our company’s success”, says Lois Wilson, Early Career Talent Manager at Smiths Group. “Our industry is ever-changing so we’re always keen to welcome innovative and creative apprentices to Smiths. Our apprentices work on real-life projects gaining hands-on experience in a leading global technology company, they are supported by professionals who are passionate about coaching and developing – leading to really exciting and successful careers.”
